Our most recent road trip from LA to San Francisco, Salinas, Ventura and back again was quite a whirl wind. Of course traveling with a group of wrestlers and burlesque dancers is always entertaining. Before we even got on the road Karis, our favorite hula hooping superstar, told a great story about getting kicked out of the very posh hotel The Dorchester in London, England. Karis was in London because an advertisement for the Philips Satinelle Ice Epilator in which he is featured was nominated for an award, he won!

On the trip north I sat next to the lovely and talented Lux Lacroix, here is her myspace link I had no idea that she is a protégé of Debbie Allen and choreographs music videos etc. She most recently did the choreography for Beyonce’s US tour. Needless to say we had a great trip to SF.

We arrived at The Fillmore at 4 or so and the wrestling ring was already set up. The Fillmore is a beautifully run historic venue. The show went as smooth as silk. The wrestlers were in tip top, even over the top, literally both Casandro and Lil Chicken jumped from the 2nd story balcony onto the main floor. The Crazy Chickens were crazier than ever. The dancers were glamorous and fabulous and Blaine Capatch and Tom Kenny were quick witted and High Lar E Us as per usual. The show was sold out, as evident by the picture of the packed floor that I took during intermission.

After the show we got back in the van and headed for Salinas, about 2 hours south of San Francisco. I bunked with Karis and we woke up and watched a little early 80’s James Bond in the form of Octopussy. What a crazy name for a film, who knew how ahead of it’s time the filmmakers’ were with this title? How could they know that 26 years later there would be a real Octopussy in the form of Nadya Suleman, the mother of the recently born octuplets. We all had brunch at Denny’s in the banquet room. One of the wrestlers had a banana split for breakfasts, which even an ice cream lover like me found a bit unusual. According to Dana Gould, comedien, producer of The Simpson’s and Blaine’s co-host at the Ventura show, a banana split is a typical breakfast in Cuba, who knew?

The Majestic Ventura Theater is a beautiful Mission style theater that reminded me of a mini Mayan theater which is the LA home of Lucha Va Voom.

At this show there were a few changes in the line up, El Presidente and Chupacabra who wrestled against each other were in Ventura and not at The Fillmore. At this show there were some very enthusiastic fans, particularly for Casandro who is one of the most popular Lucha Va Voom stars.

After the show we drove back to Silverlake and arrived about 2 am. Thanks so much to Isaac who drove and handled all of the stage managing duties for this trip. The next Lucha Va Voom event is in a few days, Cinco De Mayan; check out www.luchavavoom for details and to purchase tickets.

That’s the thing about LA - you can pretty much guarantee that the weather’s going to be - Nice!

The good weather results in many outdoor events which pose a whole different set of problems for the DJ: power management, transport, gear protection, etc. Having done this type of event many times over, Senor Amor knows what is needed to make it run smoothly - whether ballroom or canyon - the party continues without a hitch - well - apart from the one made by the happy couple!
